Snow Days!

Starting Monday we had many weather warnings about the big snow storm coming. They were predicting 12-18 inches! Knowing we wouldn't get quite that much,  I was able to keep calm about it.  We pretty much never get as much as they say we will.  The last time we got that much snow (about 16 inches) was 7 years ago.

Throw back!

Now that we've gotten the snowstorm,  I think it was about what I expected.

We had about 4 inches already that all melted on Tuesday when it got over 40 degrees and then rained.  So the big storm that started Wednesday morning was a slushy mess, which is why they canceled school for two days the evening before and even closed the Summit,  where I swim at, and Jumparama,  where the boys take tumbling at on Thursdays. So everything was canceled by Tuesday evening.

When I awoke Wednesday morning,  I decided that it wasn't too bad yet and we could have done a half day of school.  The snow really started falling that afternoon, but the roads were awful when I went out around 4, so I don't know how it was earlier.  It snowed most of Wednesday night and was supposed to snow all day Thursday,  but it didn't start again until afternoon,  then continued later than was predicted.  By the time we got all the expected snow,  there was about 6 1/2 inches,  plus some ice because of the -1 temperature. So, they ended up canceling school for Friday too.

The nice thing was that Erik and I were scheduled for a Critical Periods Brain study in Detroit that I was going to take him out of school early for. We got to go earlier in the day and do Friday's and Saturday's session on one day so that on Saturday he can attend his Ninja Warrior class.

The brain study is something that Austin used to do and has now completed it. He earned about $500 from it since he was 8 or 9. Erik's starting the study now and is excited to earn money completing an MRI, stress tests,  saliva collections,  answering lots of questions,  playing games,  and being observed. The studies usually occur every 6 months for 2 consecutive days.  We just got lucky that everyone else canceled for Friday and we could do both days in one! The roads weren't great getting there, but nothing that going a little slower on the freeway can't solve.

I missed celebrating Ground Hog's Day with my preschoolers on Wednesday,  but I guess we know that winter is still 6 weeks longer!

Wednesday morning,  you can see the gray, slushy spot by the trampoline.

Austin's friend Owen came over and the boys played a wet game of soccer!

A couple hours later.

The same time as the previous picture,  now the slush is covered!

Thursday morning fun

Harry Potter game

I went snowshoeing while the kids were sledding.

It's snowing here,  but you can't see it in the picture.

A lot of people were there!

And it was National Frozen Yogurt day!

When we measured the 6 1/2 inches.

  2. Brrr! Sounds like your storm hit y'all at the same time we got one, if you can even call ours a storm. We had no school on Thursday and a 2-hour delay on Friday. Glad Erik's study worked out to be all one day!
